Topological Social Choice at the GEOTOP-A International Conference
Some of the leading experts in applications of geometric and topological methods, including several IMD scholars and affiliates, are gathering at the GEOTOP-A International Conference on Applications of Geometry and Topology in Mérida, Mexico. Through six thematic sessions on progress in active research areas, the conference is spotlighting research on topics from topological data analysis to applications in artificial intelligence.
One of the sessions, Combinatorial Topology and Relational Structures, had several talks on social choice theory and the topology and geometry of political systems. Mathematicians are finding new ways to apply cutting-edge research to questions motivated by political processes and democratic mechanisms, as evidenced by the inclusion of these talks at this conference. IMD looks forward to sustained action that continues these conversations and translates the politically relevant research into action.
