Making Democracy Count at Harvard Book Store
Last week, Harvard Book Store welcomed Ismar Volić—director of the Institute for Mathematics and Democracy at Wellesley College—for a discussion and signing of his new book: Making Democracy Count: How Mathematics Improves Voting, Electoral Maps, and Representation. He was joined in conversation by Andrew Schultz—professor of mathematics at Wellesley College. C SPAN was also in attendance, and an event recording is forthcoming!
Their conversation spanned the dysfunctionalities of our democracy and the innumeracy of the Supreme Court to alternative voting systems and the power of quantitative literacy. It was especially wonderful to see how many community members joined, from friends and family to students at Wellesley College, Boston College, Harvard, and MIT.
