IMD Co-founder Stanley Chang Speaks about Voting Methods at a Houston, TX High School
Earlier this November, IMD Co-Founder Dr. Stanley Chang visited Episcopal High School’s Math Club and National Math Honor society. In his talk on Math & Democracy, Dr. Chang spoke to the EHS community about the basic math behind voting schemes, investigating questions around the fairness of voting systems. As shared by Emily McKay, a senior at Episcopal: “The intersection of math and political science is often overlooked, but the lecture brilliantly bridged these disciplines. The speaker adeptly navigated the intricate connections between mathematical concepts and their real-world implications in political systems. This lecture bridged my passion for mathematics and my interest in political science.” A major part of IMD’s work is inspiring young people to see these connections and understand how math is essential to political processes. We appreciated the chance to meet with these students as part of their high school’s speaker series about careers in STEM!
