IMD/AMS Workshop Recap
On April 23-25, IMD partnered with the AMS to host a workshop on the Mathematical Foundations of Democratic Processes. Over the course of these three days, a mix of 22 college professors, high school teachers, and other professionals learned about the math behind voting, gerrymandering, and apportionment. One participant said ‘the breadth of information I can integrate into a variety of classes, particularly next year (an election year) is what is making me the happiest.” Through lectures from IMD affiliates and interactive problem sessions, participants also learned how to incorporate these ideas into their own classrooms. One person said they “really enjoyed getting time to talk and work with other participants.” This workshop was the first in the AMS Engaged Pedagogy Series. You can find more about other upcoming events in this series here.
