Clinton Fellows’ Civic Innovator and Scholar Series Spotlights Ranked Choice Voting Advocacy
Wellesley’s Clinton Fellows program for sophomores consists of the Civic Action Lab before the start of the fall semester, followed by three additional labs in the fall, winter, and spring. On October 18, IMD will participate in the fall lab, reaching about 150 Wellesley sophomores.
Ed Shoemaker, Executive Director of Ranked Choice Boston, works to build support for ranked choice voting in Boston and across the state through both nonprofit and political campaign work. He works toward implementation of ranked choice voting in local elections and educates the public about the ways elections can be made more democratic. He and Professor Ismar Volić, co-founder of IMD, will speak about ranked choice voting (RCV) and its benefits, as well as their different paths to activism around this issue.
Through group activities and discussion, students will learn about how to become engaged in the political process from both the academic and advocacy sides of issues. In the fall lab, Ed Shoemaker and Prof. Volić will help students think about how they can channel their unique interests and skills toward causes they care about.
